Grab your hiking boots and flannel shirts because it’s almost fall, y’all. If you’re looking for colourful fall hikes in Ontario, this is definitely one for the bucket list. You can wander through the woods to an enchanting historic mill near Ottawa and there are so many hidden gems along the way.

Located in the charming town of Almonte, Ont., Mill of Kintail Conservation Area is just a quick day trip away from the Capital.

The area features various hiking trails, picnic spots, riverfront views, and wide-open fields for you to enjoy.

And in the fall, the entire area becomes a paradise of beautiful foliage.

The mill itself has been restored and now operates as a museum that you can explore as well.

But honestly, even on days when the museum is closed, this mill is a pretty sight to take in.

Along your journey, you’ll also uncover Cloister on the Hill, a unique outdoor chapel that’s still used for weddings and other ceremonies.

You won’t want to forget to stop for a selfie at the hugging tree either.

The trails are open daily, year-round from dusk to dawn, however, the museum is only open for tours until Thanksgiving weekend.

In total, you’ll find 6.5 kilometres worth of trails here, they’re relatively easy to navigate, making this spot ideal for beginners.

There’s also a little wooden footbridge in the area that makes for the most dreamy fall lookout spot.

And when it comes to lookout points in Ontario, there are quite a few you can check out this fall.

Like this breathtaking gem located along the Niagara Escarpment.

So if storybook-worthy views are your jam, then you need to visit Mill of Kintail ASAP.
