If you're looking for the perfect road trip from Ottawa, look no further than this charming village set on a stunning lake.

Saint-Gabriel is a quaint village nestled in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, about three hours from Ottawa.

Set on the banks of the picturesque Lake Maskinongé, the village has been called an "oasis" in the area, attracting visitors and vacationers who are drawn by the lake, the public beach, and the surrounding countryside.

The charming spot is perfect for a weekend getaway or a day trip, offering a blend of natural beauty, outdoor adventures and unique attractions.

Here, you can visit a historic winery that will transport you to the French countryside. Vignoble de Saint-Gabriel is an organic vineyard that boasts over 35,000 vines, producing 10 different varieties of wine, with tastings available.

The winery is also home to a unique hobbit-hole-like wine cellar that looks like it belongs in the Shire. The wine cellar, a major attraction in the region, contains 110 French oak barrels and offers daily guided tours providing insights into the winemaking process.

The vineyard also offers a terrace with stunning views of the surrounding hills where you can enjoy a glass of wine accompanied by a plate of local snacks.

You'll also find a lavender shop, an art gallery, an antique tractor museum, and a hiking trail on site to explore.

Another highlight of the area is its charming beach. The Plage municipale de Saint-Gabriel is the perfect place to spend a hot day by the water. Located along the shores of the quiet Lake Maskinongé, you'll feel like you're sunbathing in a tucked-away cove.

Here, you can relax on the sand, swim in the shallow waters, play volleyball, or enjoy water sports, like canoeing, kayaking or windsurfing. The beach is also equipped with BBQ facilities, and has a beach restaurant-bar where you can grab a bite.

The beach also offers entertainment, with a lineup of summer shows on offer for 2025.

For outdoor adventures, Les Sentiers Brandon is a haven for year-round activities. This network of 27 kilometres of marked trails offers panoramic viewpoints, with shelters and rest areas along the way, and can be explored on foot or by fatbike.

The trails are designed to accommodate all ages and skill levels, making it a perfect destination for families and groups.

With its combination of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and unique attractions, Saint-Gabriel offers something for all who visit.

Whether you want outdoor adventure, relaxation, or a taste of local culture, the charming village is a delightful escape into the heart of Quebec's Lanaudière region.

If you want to continue your journey, an hour away from Saint-Gabriel is the stunning La Mauricie National Park, which has lots to do and see, including hiking trails, fishing, forests, lakes and beaches.
