You don't have to leave Ontario to discover one of Canada's "most beautiful" villages. This enchanting small town is renowned for its charm and is worth a road trip.

Merrickville is a picturesque village perched along the shores of the Rideau Canal, about an hour from Ottawa.

Known as the "Jewel of the Rideau," this destination is so charming it earned a place on Culture Trip's list of the "20 Most Beautiful Towns and Villages in Canada." It was also dubbed "Canada's Most Beautiful Village" in 1998 by Communities in Bloom, so you can expect gorgeous scenery while visiting this spot.

The historic town boasts Victorian-era streets and cozy shops that will transport you to another time. According to the Merrickville-Wolford website, "you won't find any parking meters or traffic lights here, but you might find the Town Crier and very friendly villagers."

Merrickville is home to a thriving arts scene, with works by glassblowers, potters, painters, sculptors, metalsmiths, jewellery makers, and more. As you wander through the charming shops, you can find unique, handmade gems.

You can also find quaint cafes and eateries where you can dig into some delicious meals.

Merrickville boasts some beautiful scenery, and you can soak up the views along the Dam Trail or Rideau Walking Trail. There's also canoeing, bird watching, and more to enjoy in the area.

If you're looking for small-town charm and old-world vibes, Merrickville is the place to be.
