Ontario mayors are teaming up in hopes that Premier Doug Ford will reopen outdoor recreational amenities in Ontario after announcing the closures last Friday.

The mayors of Mississauga, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills and Burlington, as well as the Halton Regional Chair, have each addressed the premier with their concerns that these closures "will disproportionately harm children and those who do not have access to their own greenspace."

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie raised the issue during a press conference Wednesday, saying that she "believes that the risk of transmission from outdoor activities is extremely low" and is "asking the premier to please reconsider restrictions on outdoor recreation, such as golf and tennis."

Ford has already backtracked on provincewide playground closures after pushback from health experts and his decision to close golf courses has also been met with petitions and protests.

The premier addressed the media on Thursday to apologize to Ontarians for "moving too fast" on the measures announced last Friday but didn't say whether or not outdoor amenities would be reopened.
