P.K. Subban Donated $50K To George Floyd's Daughter & The NHL Is Matching It

One Canadian athlete is giving back in a big way. P.K. Subban's donation of $50,000 to George Floyd's daughter is being matched by the NHL. He is also asking everyone to give money if they can.

On June 3, the hockey star posted a video on social media about his donation.

In the clip, he's wearing a hat with "change the game" on it.

Subban explained that he's been wearing the hat for years and does so every day he goes into work.

"Change the game means change the narrative," he said. "The narrative has been the same, no justice. There needs to be justice."

He noted that for justice and change to happen, it has to be a team effort.

"We need everyone and all people to look at our lives and see where we can help that change and do our part," he said.

Subban then drew attention to Gianna, Floyd's 6-year-old daughter.

"This morning I donated $50,000 to her GoFundMe page," he said.

After that, Subban reached out to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the league is matching his donation.

So, in total, $100,000 will be given to Gianna from Subban and the NHL.

"I just want to reach out to everybody, anybody who can donate," he said.

Subban also posted a link to the GoFundMe page in his Instagram and Twitter bios so that people can access it.

Currently, he is the top donor. 

There is a goal of $1,000,000 for Gianna and as of 3:30 p.m. ET on June 3, over $920,000 has been raised.

All the funds raised will go towards Gianna's care and future after the tragic death of her father and help her mother, Roxie Washington, make that happen.

"Our hearts are overwhelmed with gratitude and we ask that you think of Gianna and the rest of our family as we suffer through this great loss," Washington said.

Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis after being arrested.

He was pinned to the ground by an officer who had a knee on his neck.
