Flights Have Been Suspended At A Newfoundland Airport After A Bomb Threat
Police are investigating the "validity" of the threat.

St. John's International Airport in Newfoundland.
Flights were suspended at a Newfoundland airport on Friday morning following a bomb threat, according to officials.
St. John's International Airport has suspended flights after it received a bomb threat early in the day, the airport said.
Authorities are investigating the validity of the threat is currently underway, but flight operations have been paused.
Why you should care: The airport has routes to several Canadian cities and sunshine destinations, and a delay could affect hundreds of passengers depending on how long it lasts.
What they're saying: The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that they have responded to the threat and that an "investigation into the validity of the information is in its preliminary stages."
"St. John’s International Airport received a bomb threat this morning. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary are on-site and investigating the credibility of the threat. The public is asked not to proceed to the terminal building. Flight operations have been paused while the investigation is occurring," the St. John's International Airport Authority told Narcity in an email.
The public is being asked to stay away from the airport's terminal building. Local traffic is also asked to avoid the terminal area.
If you were planning to fly out of the airport, you're asked to check with your airline on the status of your flight.
ICYMI: This is the second time in just over a month that the airport terminal has closed to the public.
In December 2023, St. John's Airport closed due to a suspicious package, but reopened shortly after an investigation determined it was a false alarm and that there was no threat to public safety.
The incident also comes one day after the airport was affected by a power outage, which also affected flight operations.
What comes next: The RNC said on social media that updates will be provided when more information on the situation becomes available.
