The majority of residents support a curfew in Ontario, according to a new poll from Leger and the Association of Canadian Studies.

Sixty-two percent of the 602 surveyed Ontarians said they would support the provincial government's decision to implement a curfew, but 45% of Ontarians said they didn't believe that specific restriction would help stop the spread of COVID-19.

62 Percentage of Ontarians who would support a provincially mandated curfew

The poll's numbers seem to suggest that skepticism about a temporary night-time curfew is higher in Ontario than in most other places in Canada.

Ontario had the second-lowest number of people who would support one, just above Alberta's 61%.

And, at 45%, Ontario had the highest percentage of people who didn't think it would be an effective way of stopping the spread of COVID-19.

According to media reports, Doug Ford was at one point considering a curfew before the province's stay-at-home order was announced.

However, when that stay-at-home order was announced on January 12, no such restriction was included.

Quebec is currently in the middle of a curfew, making it the first Canadian province to implement one.
