An Ontario city received a dire warning after positivity rates in the region reached new heights.

Brampton's COVID-19 positivity rate is currently sitting at 22.4%, meaning that one in five people who were tested for COVID-19 received a positive result, confirmed Dr. Lawrence Loh, the region's medical officer, during a Wednesday press conference.

"If you are meeting people outside of [those] you already live with, assume that they might have COVID," Loh said Wednesday.

Even NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh spoke up on behalf of the city, tweeting that Brampton is "in a dire situation" and that Doug Ford and Justin Trudeau have let the city down.

According to Loh, a record 200 COVID-19 patients have been admitted to Brampton Civic Hospital, much like ICUs in cities such as Toronto and Ottawa, which are now exceeding capacity.
