Jagmeet Singh Says The Derek Chauvin Verdict Is 'One Small Step In The Right Direction'

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has spoken out after the Derek Chauvin verdict was announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd in 2020, but Singh tweeted that there is more work to do to overcome "the systemic racism embedded within our institutions."

"But in the memory of George Floyd, it is one small step in the right direction," Singh said, adding a link to the George Floyd Memorial Foundation.

A unanimous Minnesota jury found Chauvin guilty on all three charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

He has been taken back into custody by police and awaits a sentencing hearing, which will take place in eight weeks.
