Mississauga Went Harder Than It Needed To For Hazel McCallion's 100th Birthday (VIDEO)

They're going all out for 'Hurricane Hazel.'
Staff Writer

Valentine's Day isn't the biggest holiday in Ontario on February 14 — that honour belongs to Hazel McCallion Day.

The legendary former Mayor of Mississauga turned 100 on February 14, 2021, and the whole city has been going all-out for months to celebrate "Hurricane Hazel."

Her birthday celebrations have been happening for months now. In November 2020, Mississauaga announced it was renaming Central Library as "Hazel McCallion Central Library."

On Wednesday, February 10, a few special Canadian icons — including Doug Ford, Don Cherry, and Justin Trudeau — paid video tribute to Hazel at a special hour-long Zoom birthday party hosted by the City of Mississauga.

And then on Saturday, the day before her birthday, she even got a birthday parade from Peel Police, Fire, and Emergency Services.

As if that wasn't enough, Mississauga is premiering a full documentary tribute to Hazel on YouTube and Facebook tonight called "Hazel A Celebration: 100 Years In The Making."

Yes, the celebrations are off the charts, but it's not every day that a hurricane turns 100!
