Photos of Justin Bieber's dreadlocks are getting a mixed reaction on social media after the Canadian star debuted his new hairstyle online.

Sharing the first photo of his new 'do over the weekend, Bieber was called out by some fans for cultural appropriation. One person asked, "Didn't you say you were educating yourself about black culture so what is this foolery?"

Another of his followers responded, "J, please educate yourself on culture appropriation.... You shouldn't be wearing dreads... With love."

However, the singer's new style was a hit with some of his celebrity friends and followers. That's So Raven star Kyle Massey described Bieber as a "living legend," while Jaden Smith simply said, "Swags crazy."

Bieber has not directly acknowledged any of the criticism online, but shared a post on Monday that read, "There's power in acknowledging our insecurities, WE ALL GOT EM."
