A 7-Month-Old Pomeranian Was Dragged On Its Leash Outside Of A Moving Car In Mississauga

A seven-month-old Pomeranian puppy named Sky is expected to make a full recovery after being dragged by its leash from a moving car in Mississauga earlier this week.
"On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at approximately 4 p.m., multiple calls were received to the Peel Regional Police Communications Centre, after witnesses observed a small dog being dragged with a leash, by the driver of a vehicle in the area of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Destination Drive in the City of Mississauga," Peel Regional Police wrote in an August 5 announcement.

"Several concerned citizens were able to stop the vehicle, at which point the driver dropped the leash and fled the area in his vehicle," police continued. Sky was transported to an emergency vet hospital in Oakville by Mississauga Animal Services, where it received treatment for its injuries caused by the event.
Peel Regional Police tweeted their thanks to the "kind-hearted citizens" that rescued Sky on Wednesday.
A 70-year-old man, Jose Tavares, has been charged with injuring an animal, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and impaired operation of a conveyance.
"The veterinary hospital that is currently treating Sky has received countless offers of financial donations but are not in a position to accept donations. Instead, we ask that you consider donating to your local humane society to support their programs and initiatives," police wrote in the news release.
