According to Elgin County OPP, the plane, a Rutan, Long E-Z, single-engine piston, was an amateur home-built aircraft.

The aircraft ploughed into the foundation of a partially-built home, which police say was located near a grass landing strip.

OPP says that the plane was discovered near Leitch Street in Dutton at about 6:15 p.m. on Thursday evening.

The pilot was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious and possibly life-altering injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has since launched an investigation into the incident.
