This Checklist Explains Everything You Need To Do To Enter Canada Right Now
To help anybody hoping to enter Canada via plane right now, the federal government has created a “checklist” that details exactly what to do.
It includes information about booking one of Canada’s quarantine hotels, as well as details about taking multiple COVID-19 tests.

As part of the checklist, there are sections like; before you travel, boarding your flight, arriving in Canada and completing your hotel quarantine.
It’s also jam-packed with helpful links about the three COVID-19 tests travellers must take, in addition to information about the ArriveCAN app that must be downloaded.
Anybody arriving via air will need to prove that their reason for travel is essential, in addition to providing documentation about their pre-arrival COVID-19 test and detailed plans for their 14-day quarantine.
Before you travel
Before boarding a flight, the Canadian government asks travellers to check and double-check the provincial or territorial restrictions at their destination.
With localized restrictions in mind, they’re then asked to come up with a detailed itinerary and quarantine plan, which will be shown to Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) officers upon arrival.
Passengers must also pre-book their stay in a government-approved hotel for a minimum of three nights.
Then, a pre-entry COVID-19 test is required before boarding a plane.
The ArrriveCAN app must be used to submit all travel documents and quarantine plans.
Boarding your flight
There are only four airlines accepting international arrivals and departures right now.
This includes Calgary Airport, Montréal-Trudeau Airport, Toronto Pearson Airport and Vancouver Airport.
The only exemptions are planes from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and cargo-only flights.
Before boarding, passengers are asked to have their ArriveCAN receipt and pre-entry test results ready to provide to the airline.
Arriving in Canada
After landing, travellers are expected to show border officials their ArriveCAN receipt, pre-departure COVID-19 test results, hotel booking confirmation and detailed quarantine plans.
They’ll then be required to take a second COVID-19 test in the airport, before going “directly” to their pre-booked hotel for a minimum of three nights.
Completing your quarantine
“The timing of your departure from the hotel and the place you will complete the rest of your quarantine period depend on the results of your arrival test,” explains the federal government.
If the arrival test returns negative, a passenger will be able to leave the hotel and move on to their final quarantine destination.
If it returns positive, however, the guest will be taken to a government-approved facility to complete their quarantine safely.
On the tenth day of a traveller’s two-week quarantine, they’ll be required to take a third COVID-19 test.
If it’s negative, the individual may leave their place of quarantine after 14-days full quarantine (including the period at the hotel).
If it’s positive, the person must restart their two-week quarantine from the day the latest test was taken.
