A tranquil paddle through the lake turned into a terrifying incident this weekend in Muskoka.

On August 15, a couple was canoeing around 2:30 p.m. on the Trans Canada Bay of Six Mile Lake when a small floatplane started hurdling towards them, according to an OPP news release.

The couple had to jump out of their canoe and into the water towards safety to avoid being hit by the incoming plane.

The plane was landing in the bay and crashed into the couple's canoe severely damaging it but thankfully no injuries were sustained to the two canoers, according to the news release.

Police say the pilot of the plane and witnesses in the area helped the couple to safety.

No charges have been laid at this time but the marine unit of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and Transport Canada is currently investigating the incident.
