The Ontario government is stepping up its fight against the by accelerating second dose eligibility to residents aged 12 to 17 next week.

Starting on July 5 at 8 a.m., those eligible can book an "accelerated second dose" appointment and receive the Pfizer vaccine through the province's booking system, public health units and select pharmacies.

"As the province enters Step Two of our Roadmap, all eligible Ontarians have the opportunity for a two-dose summer," said Christine Elliott, minister of health. "Vaccines are the best defence against COVID-19 and variants, and I encourage everyone to get their first and second shots as soon as possible."

The expansion of the vaccine rollout will also help facilitate a safe return to school this September.

On June 28, all Ontario residents over the age of 18 also became eligible for an accelerated second dose.
