Ontario's Top Doctor Hints That Step 3 Won't Happen For At Least 3 More Weeks

He doesn't want the province to move into step three early.

Ontario's top doctor warned Tuesday that the province will be in step two of Ontario's reopening plan for weeks.

In a press conference, Dr. Kieran Moore, chief medical officer of health, said that he believes a minimum of 21 days is required to study the impact of the variants of concern in hot spots around the province before moving into step three.

"I am an optimist, I would very much like us to move forward and not backwards. I do want us to celebrate our high immunization rates and the achievements we have realized in Ontario, but I do think a 21-day interval is prudent," Moore said.

"I personally don't want to see that shortened because we need to be data-driven in the face of this new enemy," he added.

Ontario entered step two of the government's reopening framework today, which reduces restrictions on outdoor dining and indoor social gatherings.

If the province chooses to wait 21 days before moving forward, Ontario won't move into step three until the end of July.
