Tess, a 14-year-old golden retriever from Newmarket, Ontario, suffers from canine vestibular disease, a non-progressive disturbance in balance that is common in older dogs.

Lauren Roy, Tess's owner, told TWN on Monday that she taught her pal how to sled to ensure she wouldn't be left behind.

"She was a little skeptical at first, but later realized it's a great way for her to keep up with what she loves," Roy said in her statement.

Exploring Ontario through winter hikes is a passion of the ageing dog's family, one they couldn't bear to do without her.

Tess can often be seen cruising through York Regional Forest trails in her comfy blue sled.
