The COVID-19 outbreak has significantly disrupted our residence and U of G community. We are taking this situation very seriously. Carrie Chassels, Vice-Provost, University Of Guelph

A total of 49 U of G students have tested positive for COVID-19 this month.

The outbreak has been linked to numerous social gatherings, which were held at the school's East Village Townhouses.

As a result, the university has announced that individuals found in violation of the COVID-19 protocols will now be fined $880 under the Reopening Ontario Act

Some violations include not wearing a mask and participating in campus parties.

Security cameras will also be installed around the perimeter of the residence and campus police will increase their monitoring.

The university is also considering implementing a campus curfew.
