The investigation into an Oshawa home shooting that left five dead was paused due to the presence of a suspicious object.

680 News reports that during the coroner's report and body removal, investigators found an unknown item. The Durham Explosive Disposal Unit was dispatched to the scene.

Officers have evacuated the premise and have asked all neighbours and mourners to step back.

The shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. Five people were killed, including two teens and the suspect. Police say the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A 50-year-old woman was also injured and taken to hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
