Peel Just Beat Toronto For Most COVID-19 Cases For The First Time Ever
Today marks a first for Peel Region — it has officially surpassed Toronto in its daily count of new COVID-19 infections.
The region — comprised of Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon — was moved into the red "control" zone last week by Premier Doug Ford after cases surged.
Now, the region is reporting more cases than ever.

New COVID-19 infections in Peel Region on Wednesday
This is the first time Peel has reported more cases than Toronto, with Toronto only reporting 384 on Wednesday.
Yesterday, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said that the city is in a "crisis" and is now facing a "tipping point."
Over the weekend, Peel's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lawrence Loh put even more stringent measures in place, including tighter gathering restrictions.
Currently, all indoor dining in bars and restaurants, indoor fitness classes, theatres, gyms, celebratory gatherings, and team sports are closed and cancelled.
There are to be no non-essential visitors to workplaces and businesses must offer work-from-home opportunities wherever possible.
Dr. Loh is urging residents to keep any gatherings to household members or essential supports only.
