A small plane made an emergency landing on an Ontario road on Monday night after its engine failed, police say.

According to Durham Regional Police (DRPS), the incident happened at Bayly Street East and Audley Road South in Ajax.

Police said on social media at 8:39 p.m. Monday night that they were on the scene responding to a plane crash and asked the public to avoid the area.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday night, the Town of Ajax said it was "aware of the aviation accident" and that all emergency services were at the scene.

In a later update posted on X, police said that the small aircraft had made an emergency landing after its engine failed and the pilot was able to glide the aircraft onto the roadway.

"A few light poles have been damaged, as well as the plane. No injuries have been reported. The area remains closed," said DRPS.

Footage of the incident has been shared online showing the small plane sitting in the middle of a roadway in the area of Bayly Street East and Audley Road South.

The clip, which was uploaded to r/Toronto on Reddit, shows the plane visibly damaged on the roadway surrounded by police.

"There's really a plane," says the person filming the video. "How do you land that here?"

The video visible damage to the wing of the plane, as well as a damaged traffic light, apparently impacted by the plane landing.
