Toronto's COVID-19 Cases Will Get 'Much Worse' Without More Shutdowns

Dr. Eileen de Villa is warning that Toronto's COVID-19 cases will get "much worse" in the next month without new restrictions. 

In a press conference on October 7, Toronto's Medical Officer of Health stated that we can expect to see numbers rise above what we initially saw in the first wave. 

According to a model de Villa referenced, the 6ix could even see 30,000 more cases pop up in the next few months.

We expect to see disease activity in the next few weeks of October that would exceed our April peak.

Dr. de Villa also states that "if the virus is unchecked, heading into November, things could get much worse."

On top of that, it is also being predicted that we could reach another peak of COVID-19 between the months of March and May of next year. 

In order to stop this, the doctor said that multiple new restrictions should put in place across the city. 

Dr. de Villa has been pushing to shut down indoor dining and put other restrictions into place moving into the winter months 

She has also said that Toronto's case counts should be a "warning" to the city.
