Toronto Has Hundreds Of New COVID-19 Cases & Some Neighbourhoods Are Worse Than Others

As Ontario continues to battle the second wave of COVID-19, hundreds of new cases are being reported on the daily. 

A large number of positive cases flooded back into the 6ix this month and Toronto's COVID-19 cases continue to make up a large portion of the provincial total. 

However, some neighbourhoods in the city, including the Waterfront, are currently being hit harder than others.

How many new cases is Toronto reporting a day?

Christine Elliot, Ontario's Minister of Health, reported that out of the 548 new cases of COVID-19 that were confirmed in Ontario on Tuesday, 201 of those tests were in Toronto.

However, it's not just Tuesday that saw the 6ix making up a big chunk of cases. 

Monday's total was a whopping 615 cases, with 289 of those recorded in the 6ix. 

The City of Toronto currently has a cumulative count of 21,142 cases of the disease.

However, Premier Doug Ford noted during a press conference at Queen's Park today that case numbers appeared to be slowly decreasing. 

Which neighbourhoods in the city have the most amount of cases?

In the last 21 days, 150 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Toronto's Waterfront Communities making it the city's number one hotspot for the disease.

Other problem areas include Niagara with 91 new cases in the past 21 days, York University Heights with 82 and the Annex with 73. 

West Humber-Clairville has also reported 618 cases overall, marking another hotspot in the city. 

There are currently 119 active outbreaks in Toronto as of Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

What restrictions is Toronto facing?

As the cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, the province has stepped in to help stop the spread. 

Toronto bars and restaurants were ordered to adhere to an 11:00 p.m. curfew under provincial restrictions. 

The provincial indoor and outdoor social gathering limits were also significantly reduced last month.

A maximum of 10 people are allowed to gather inside, with 25 people permitted outdoors.

The Toronto City Council also implemented a temporary by-law in the summer, forcing residents to wear a mask or face covering indoors, including common areas in apartments and condominiums.
