The City of Toronto is teaming up with a popular volunteer-run Twitter account called Vaccine Hunters Canada in an effort to help residents book their appointments at its city-run clinics.

Vaccine Hunters Canada started its account in March 2021 and has amassed a following of nearly 200,000 users for its frequent updates about vaccine availability from coast to coast.

At the end of each day, the City of Toronto will provide Vaccine Hunters Canada with appointment availability at Toronto's mass immunization clinics, which Vaccine Hunters Canada will then share on Twitter.

"This is a huge, all hands-on deck effort and Vaccine Hunters Canada have stepped up to help people get vaccinated and navigate the different registration systems," said Mayor John Tory in a news release.

Toronto City Councillor Josh Matlow tweeted that, while he's grateful for Vaccine Hunters Canada's tireless efforts, "the very fact, so many of us are reliant on a group of tech-friendly volunteers (rather than an effective government portal where one can pre-register) to find out where to get vaccinated, speaks volumes."
