You never know what kind of experience you're going to get when you're booking a ride, but now Uber's favourite driver program lets Canadians have a preference.

The new feature on the rideshare app lets customers set a driver as their favourite after a five-star ride.

On future trips that are booked more than 30 minutes in advance, the passenger's preferred driver will be notified and given the option to accept the fare, though they don't always have to take it.

The new option has already been rolled out to Uber riders in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.

Calgary-based driver Binyam Asress said in a statement that this was a feature he had been wanting for a long time.

"What 'Favorite Driver' offers was the very thing requested by many of my riders: the chance to re-book an amazing experience again," he said.

Matthew Price, Uber Canada’s General Manager, said that this will allow drivers to grow their businesses even more.

Uber has instituted several new rules and features this year, including an emergency button in case something goes wrong.
