Starting in select cities in the U.S.

As COVID-19 vaccines continue to be administered around the world, the rideshare app Uber is stepping up to help everyone get a dose.

Starting in just a few major U.S. cities, Uber will be teaming up with Walgreens to give those who don't have a car a free ride to get a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

We will take bold action to address vaccine access and hesitancy among those hit hardest by the pandemic. John Standley, Walgreens president

The new partnership is a part of a larger commitment made by Uber to provide up to 10 million free or discounted rides to vaccination sites.

“Transportation should never be a barrier to health care. We look forward to building on this exciting new partnership with Walgreens, harnessing the power of the Uber platform to help connect more people with vaccines, as we all work together to help end this pandemic,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.

Those who schedule an appointment to get a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at a Walgreens store in participating cities will have one-click access to a pre-scheduled free ride from Uber.

The new program will start in Chicago, Atlanta, Houston and El Paso.

Walgreens will begin administering doses of the vaccine to priority groups such as the elderly and those with preexisting conditions starting on Friday in 15 different states.
