Metro Vancouver's transit authority, Translink, announced on Thursday, August 6, that wearing face masks on Vancouver transit will soon become mandatory. 

The regulation goes into effect starting Monday, August 24, according to the news release, so you have a little bit of time to get yourself a mask.

We’ve listened to transit users who want to see face coverings made mandatory on transit vehicles.

People with underlying medical conditions or disabilities won't be asked to wear a mask. They have the option to request a TransLink-branded exemption card. 

Children under the age of five and first responders or employees attending an emergency also don't need to wear a face covering. 

Though Transit Police have the power to enforce the rule, the release stated that they're going to be focusing on educating the riders initially.
