Vancouver is the go-to destination for people visiting the West Coast. Most fly into the city and spend their days exploring the bustling streets, mountain views, and city beaches (rightfully so — it's gorgeous). Beyond Metro Vancouver's borders though are some of the province's most stunning spots. We're talking small towns in the mountains, oceanside retreats, rainforest escapes, and jaw-dropping natural beauty.

While the city has its perks, it doesn't hurt to explore a little further on your next trip. If you don't know where to start, you're in luck. We asked readers on the Narcity Facebook Page to share where they think people should go in B.C. over Vancouver.

One small town just an hour and a half from the city was mentioned repeatedly, and it's not hard to see why. Whistler is a well-known hot spot in B.C., especially in the winter, but it's a must-visit any time of the year.

Even the journey there is stunning, as you drive along the Sea-to-Sky highway and see the sparkling ocean, mountain peaks, and windy road ahead.

You'll drive through Squamish, glimpsing the towering Stawamus Chief and the bright blue Howe Sound.

The views keep on coming as you make your way into the small town of Whistler. While it's known for its skiing, the village is lively in the summer too.

Hiking trails open for incredible views (like the legendary Garibaldi) or mountain biking if you're up for a thrill.

Then there are the sparkling lakes and parks, connected by a paved trail that winds you past towering trees. Lost Lake is a popular spot in the summer, surrounded by a thick forest that makes it feel that much more peaceful.

Adventure and beauty are at your doorstep here, but you also have many restaurants, shops, and bars in town. It strikes that balance of natural wonder with city-like amenities.

If you're heading west and want to stick close to the big city but experience some more of the brilliant nature the province is known for, tag Whistler on to your trip.
