Ryan Reynolds Calls Vancouver 'Awesome' After Stolen Teddy Bear Was Returned To Its Owner

Some good news! If you follow Ryan Reynolds on Twitter, you may have seen him tweeting about the stolen Vancouver teddy bear that's taken the internet by storm. Thanks to the actor spreading awareness, the treasured teddy has been returned to its rightful owner.

On July 25, Reynolds took to social media to retweet a message from CBC reporter Deborah Goble about a stuffed animal that had been stolen from a Vancouver resident.

The owner, Mara Soriano, was moving to a new apartment in the city's West End when she briefly put her backpack down to take a call from a friend, CTV News reports.

Within minutes, the bag, which contained an iPad, passport, and a Build-a-Bear was stolen. As it turns out, the teddy was an irreplaceable gift from Soriano's late mother, who passed away in 2019 after a battle with cancer.

"No matter where you are, part of me will always be with you forever. I love you," a voice recording from her mother inside the bear says.

"It’s the last thing I have that sounds like the mom I grew up with," the Vancouverite told CTV News.

A Vancity native himself, Reynolds is no stranger to helping out his fellow Canadians, and it seems that Soriano's story tugged at his heartstrings.

"Vancouver: $5,000 to anyone who returns this bear to Mara. Zero questions asked. I think we all need this bear to come home," he tweeted last weekend.

According to CTV News, Soriano has been receiving messages from people as far away as Australia, Germany, and India thanks to Reynolds' tweet.

"I never in a million years would have thought this would have gotten this much traction," she said.

Scrubs actor Zach Braff and Schitt's Creek star Dan Levy also used their platforms to spread awareness about the missing bear.

On the morning of July 29, Reynolds took to Twitter to give an update — Soriano's bear has been found and returned.

"In happier news... thank you everyone who searched high and low. To the person who took the bear, thanks for keeping it safe. Vancouver is awesome," the Deadpool actor wrote.
