On train service attendant
Salary: $27.45 an hour
Company: VIA Rail
Location: Toronto, ON
Who Should Apply: You must have a high school diploma and at least one year of customer service experience.
Also, you need to be able to communicate in English and French.
It's required that you're physically able to repetitively handle items weighing up to 50 pounds, which is the equivalent of a large suitcase.
You must be available to work variable schedules on call, including weekends and holidays.
Since this is an on-train job, you have to be able to travel away from home for one to three days per trip.
You could work on routes including Toronto-Windsor, Toronto-Niagara, and Toronto-Montreal with this position.
Electrical technician
Salary: $71,971 to $88,906 a year
Company: VIA Rail
Location: Montreal, QC
Who Should Apply: You need a college diploma in electrical engineering, specializing in electrotechnics, automation or industrial electricity to get hired.
Also, you must have:
- knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and workplace electrical safety standards
- five years of experience as an industrial electrician
- knowledge of AutoCAD software
- familiarity with programmable logic controllers, instrumentation and control, and Human-Machine Interfaces
- understanding of basic electrical concepts, with the ability to read single-line and multi-line diagrams
It's required that you're bilingual in French and English, with the ability to speak and write in both languages.
Passenger car cleaner
Salary: $32.39 an hour, plus an additional $1.50 to $2 an hour for night shifts

It's required that you have mechanical aptitudes. Experience in a trade is an asset, but not required.
Also, you must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, work flexible schedules, and work in a team.
Locomotive engineer

Location: Thompson, MB
Who Should Apply: You must be a qualified locomotive engineer with a Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualification.
Also, you need to be able to meet the physical requirements of the job and be safety-oriented.
You must have technical and mechanical aptitudes, and decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Manager, customer experience
Salary: $79,169 to $97,797 a year
Company: VIA Rail
Location: Toronto, ON
Who Should Apply: You need a university degree in management or a related field of study, or a minimum of five years of experience working as a supervisor in a customer service environment.
It's required that you have:
- customer service skills
- knowledge of health and safety training
- knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and Human Rights Legislation
- proficiency with Microsoft Office
You must be able to travel and work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Also, you must be bilingual in English and French with the ability to write and speak in both languages.
Railway car technician
Salary: $35.22 to $42.49 an hour, plus an additional $1.50 or $2 an hour for night shifts

Who Should Apply: VIA Rail is hiring people who have experience as a millwright, carpenter, plumber, welder, fabricator or automotive technician.
It's preferred that you're a Red Seal certified tradesperson, but you can apply if you're an apprentice.
Locomotive attendant
Salary: $36.27 an hour

Who Should Apply: You need a high school diploma and a valid driver's license for this job.
Also, you must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, use industrial tools, work outdoors, and work evenings and weekends.
It's required that you're available to work any day of the week because the maintenance centre is open 24/7 during peak season.
Electrical engineer
Salary: $86,366 to $106,687 a year
Company: VIA Rail
Location: Montreal, QC
Who Should Apply: You must have a university degree in electrical engineering and be a registered member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
At least five years of experience as an electrical engineer is required.
You also need experience in:
- designing, analyzing, and modifying electrical circuits or systems
- preparing required documents for production (including bill of materials, electrical diagrams, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures)
- electrical (power) controls, electronic controls, and communication systems
Proficiency in AutoCAD computer-aided design software and Microsoft Office is needed for this job.
