Dr. Tam Says She Knows Canadians Are 'Dreaming' Of Vacations But Travel Is Still A No-Go

The holidays could look a little different this year! 🇨🇦
Senior Writer

When it comes to winter vacations, Dr. Theresa Tam said she knows Canadians are "dreaming" of heading to warm destinations. However, she reminded Canadians that we still shouldn't travel.

In the top doctor's statement, shared on December 2, she addressed how people usually travel to sunny climates during the winter.

Despite this, she went on to urge Canadians to steer-clear of international travel ahead of the holidays, in order to stay as safe as possible during the pandemic.

With the weather growing colder and winter almost upon us I know that many, including older Canadians, are dreaming of spending time in warmer climates. Dr. Theresa Tam

Despite the desire to defrost and warm up, Dr. Tam urged Canadians not travel right now, particularly due to the high rates of COVID-19 in many parts of the world.

"This year the best way to protect yourself, your family, and those most at risk of severe illness from COVID-19 in our communities is to avoid non-essential travel," she explained.

Canada still has a global travel advisory in place and restrictions on non-essential travel into the country have now been extended into 2021.

Also, Justin Trudeau suggested recently that the Canada-U.S. border won't reopen any time soon, either.

The top doctor noted that if you do have to travel, you should be informed of the risks associated with leaving the country and the entry requirements of other countries.
