The Happiest Countries In The World Have Been Ranked & Canada Is Slipping

We still managed to crack the top 20, though!

Contributor

A new World Happiness Report for 2021 has been released. The report ranks the happiness levels of 149 countries to see who is the most and least happy in the world.

The report considers things like health, wealth, life expectancy, social support, freedom, perceptions of the government, and more to determine just how happy people are. This year also focused on COVID-19 happiness levels, mental health, and the various country's responses.

In this year's list, Canada is sitting in 14th place. While this does make Canada the happiest country in North America and earns the country a spot in the top 20, this ranking is actually lower than it's been in previous years.

In 2019, Canada was the ninth happiest country in the world. In 2020, it dropped down to the 11th spot. Now, it's fallen three more places to where it sits in number 14.

The happiest countries in the world

According to the ranking, the happiest countries in the world are as follows:

  1. Finland
  2. Denmark
  3. Switzerland
  4. Iceland
  5. Netherlands
  6. Norway
  7. Sweden
  8. Luxembourg
  9. New Zealand
  10. Austria
  11. Australia
  12. Israel
  13. Germany
  14. Canada
  15. Ireland
  16. Costa Rica
  17. United Kingdom
  18. Czech Republic
  19. United States
  20. Belgium

While Canada was ranked the best country in the world earlier this year, it seems that we may have a little bit of work to do when it comes to our happiness levels.

We're not sure what Finland is up to, but it sounds like we need to take a page out of their book.
