You know someone truly loves their job when they're still able to bust a move. One B.C. traffic controller working in the Northwest Territories went viral after a video of his MJ-inspired dance number hit social media. Narcity spoke to the people who filmed the whole routine and now they're actually friends in real life with Canada's Next Dance Super Star.
Iona Strachan and Monique Hurley were driving home to Yellowknife from their vacation in the N.W.T. on Thursday, July 30, when they first crossed paths with the one-man dance party.
"Monique and I enjoy dancing all the time, so we were dancing in our vehicle when we pulled up to the construction," said Strachan. "We were the first vehicle there so we had a great view of Daniel."
They were talking about B.C. native and dance extraordinaire Daniel Odgers-Stedman.
"So we danced, Monique and I inside the vehicle with Daniel outside the vehicle, for about 20 minutes," said Strachan.
Their minute-long video, which has since been viewed 3.1 million times after being shared by CBC News, showed Odgers-Stedman holding a sign and directing traffic in one lane.
Strachan and Hurley can be heard laughing in the background as he grooved in the road. Odgers-Stedman did some slick twirling of his sign and even pulled a Michael Jackson classic move.
Narcity has reached out to Odgers-Stedman for comment and we will update this story when we receive a response.
After their impromptu dance party, Strachan and Hurley went on a search for the mysterious and incredibly smooth dancer.
"When I posted the video, I said in my messages my goodness, I really want to know who this guy is," she said.
Soon after, Odgers-Stedman's brother replied and provided her with the dance wiz's number. They've been messaging and chatting ever since.
"...We dream of meeting up again and having a dance on construction," she said.
Odgers-Stedman's sick moves have inspired tons of passing drivers, Strachan said. After her video was posted, a bunch of people reached out saying how they saw his dancing on the road and had a little laugh.
Now that he's viral, he'll be bringing joy to a ton more people.
