Here's What COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements Are At 11 Canadian Universities & Colleges

Seneca College

Seneca College is making vaccinations a condition for students and employees to come on campus as of September 7, 2021. That includes students living in residence along with the employees who work there.

The vaccination policy applies to students and employees who are coming to campus for in-person learning, teaching and working.

The school said that if students choose not to get vaccinated, they will need to be enrolled in a program that's offered online or through a flexible format.

University of Toronto

While the University of Toronto originally only required students living in residence or doing certain activities to be vaccinated for the 2021-22 school year, the school later revealed on August 11 that U of T will require everyone intending to be on campus to also be fully vaccinated.

Anyone visiting the university's three campuses is required to declare their vaccination status and someone who answers "no" or "prefer not to say" needs to take rapid screening tests twice a week and have a negative result within 72 hours of going to campus.

Simon Fraser University

Simon Fraser University said that B.C.'s public health officer has shared that nobody will be required to be vaccinated in the province and so the school's focus is educating students, faculty and staff about why it's important to get a vaccine.

University of Manitoba

While the University of Manitoba is encouraging everyone in the school community to get vaccinated as soon as they're eligible, there is no plan to make vaccination a requirement or request to see proof of immunization.

Western University

Previously, Western University said only students living in residence at the school and its affiliated university colleges (Brescia, Huron and King's) would be required to have received at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for the upcoming school year.

Those students are asked to get immunized before they arrive at school. Anyone who can't get access to a vaccine dose will have 14 days after their move-in date to get vaccinated on campus.

On August 11, the university announced that Western, Brescia, Huron and King's are all now requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for students, staff and faculty. Anyone without proof of vaccination must get tested twice a week in order to be allowed on campus.

University of Alberta

Currently, students, employees, contractors and visitors won't need to prove that they're vaccinated to study or work at the University of Alberta, but everyone is being encouraged to get a vaccine.

Sheridan College

Ontario's Sheridan College is not currently mandating vaccination for students attending classes in person or living in residence. The school said that its students were surveyed recently and 90% responded that they plan to be vaccinated by the fall.

Dalhousie University

Dalhousie University hasn't said that vaccination is a requirement for the upcoming academic year. However, the school is reminding students coming to campus from outside of Nova Scotia that being fully vaccinated could let them skip quarantine.

Students who have not been vaccinated — whether it be partially or fully — before arriving at Dalhousie will be able to get vaccinated in Nova Scotia.

University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia won't be making vaccination mandatory for students, faculty or staff. Also, the school won't ask anyone part of the campus community to disclose their vaccination status.

This decision was made because COVID-19 vaccines aren't mandatory in Canada and because of equity, privacy, human rights, employment law and operational considerations, according to a spokesperson from the university.

Ryerson University

Ryerson University is requiring all students living in residence during the 2021-22 academic year to be vaccinated.

Students who will be living in residence on campus will need to have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before they move in.

York University

York is requiring all students living in residence for the 2021-22 school year to have received the first dose of a vaccine approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization. Those people will be required to submit documentation that confirms their vaccination status.

Currently, York isn't requiring anyone in the school community besides those living in residence to be vaccinated and/or provide proof of vaccination to participate in on-campus and in-person activities at the university.
