A Magnificent Meteor Shower Is Coming To Georgia & Peak Stargazing Is Next Week
The Southern Taurid Meteor Shower is active during October and November every year, and peak stargazing nights are just around the corner.
This year, the best nights to catch a glimpse of South Taurid shooting stars will be October 29 and 30, and the showers will be followed by a full moon on Halloween for the first time in 19 years.
The Southern Taurids become visible once a year as Earth passes through a patch of debris in space and pieces of comets smash through the atmosphere, creating the Taurid meteors.
Seeing a Taurid fireball – even if it’s just one – counts as a big thrill.

You’ll have to be patient and watch closely though because this shower only produces around five meteor streaks per hour.
What you'll really want to watch out for are the spectacular fireballs that the meteor shower creates.
According to NASA, fireballs are prolonged explosions of light and they are a big thrill to see.
Luckily, you'll have a pretty good shot at seeing one of these fireballs because the Southern Taurids are known for producing a high percentage of them.
Finding a dark spot away from the city lights can be a challenge, so we found the best stargazing spots in Georgia where you can kick back and watch the Southern Taurid meteors dance across the sky.
