A Florida man has been arrested and charged with the attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl in West Pensacola.

Jared Stanga, 30, has been charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under 13, aggravated assault and battery after surveillance video caught a broad-daylight kidnapping attempt on the morning of Tuesday, May 18.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Stanga grabbed the 11-year-old while she was waiting for a school bus. She fought back and managed to escape, and police say she is now safe and with her family.

"I am very proud of the efforts of the Escambia County Sherriff's Office," Sheriff Chip W. Simmons said in a press conference on Wednesday, May 19.

"But I cannot help to think that this could've ended very differently, had this 11-year-old victim not thought to fight, and to fight, and to just never give up."
