Canadians have revealed which grocery stores in Canada they avoid shopping at.

You might expect Loblaws to be the top choice for shoppers, but it was beaten by another retailer.

Earlier this year, Narcity asked people to share the grocery stores they avoid shopping at and almost 20 retailers were named.

A few people also gave their reasons for not shopping at these grocery retailers.

These are the top three grocery stores that Canadians avoid shopping at:

  1. Walmart
  2. Loblaws
  3. Superstore

Someone told Narcity that they "despise" Walmart and avoid it as much as possible, but some of the prices are good, so they end up shopping there a few times a year anyway.

Another person commented that doing an entire grocery shop on a budget just isn't "feasible" at Loblaws.

"Loblaws is overpriced," someone said.

After those top three, the stores that Canadians avoid the most are: Sobeys, No Frills, Metro, Safeway, and Save-On-Foods.

Some people commented that even though they like Sobeys and Metro, they "hate the prices."

So, they avoid those retailers because of the high costs.

Then, these are the grocery stores in Canada that only a few people said they avoid shopping at:

  • Costco
  • IGA
  • Foodland
  • FreshCo
  • Food Basics
  • Whole Foods
  • Zehrs
  • Longo's
  • Co-op
  • Fortinos
  • T&T

"So everyone is complaining about every chain... Got it," one person commented.

While a few people said they avoid shopping at all grocery stores in Canada, others said the opposite.

"I shop everywhere," someone told Narcity. "That's how you actually get the best bang for the buck."

"I don't avoid any of them," another person said.

"I just avoid U.S. products, not the entire store," someone commented.

Narcity also recently asked what Canadians think the most expensive grocery stores are, and Loblaws wasn't in the number one spot either.

We also checked prices at those five "most expensive" retailers to see where you'll pay the most for staple grocery products like bread, coffee, water and more.
