Aysanabee is gearing up for the Juno Awards next month and he's reminiscing about what his first trip to Halifax looked like.

The First Nations singer-songwriter got to participate in a traditional East Coast activity and says there are certain spots he's looking forward to visiting again during his upcoming trip.

Aysanabee spoke with Narcity on the red carpet at a Juno Awards press event in Toronto on Tuesday, during which he shared a fun East Coast story.

The musician recollected that his first trip to Halifax was to visit his brother who lived there then. The musician attended a New Year's Eve party and couldn't find his way back to his brother's house.

"I knocked on a door at like five in the morning 'cause I recognized the house and a woman opened the door," he explained.

Aysanabee continued that the woman recognized him from an open mic night she had invited him to previously.

Unfortunately, she said the party was wrapping up as everyone was out of beer so Aysanabee said he whipped out a bottle of champagne he had and the early morning party continued on.

"We're having champagne and the guitar is getting passed around, literally everyone in this room was such a phenomenal musician and songwriter," he told Narcity. "Apparently that's such a massive East Coast kitchen party kind of thing."

Aysanabee says there are several spots he's looking forward to seeing again once he gets to Halifax in March.

"I kind of do the regular things like have a donair. I like to eat the local cuisine," he explained.

The Canadian singer is also excited to take in "as much music as [he] can" and attend some local shows happening at the time.

Aysanabee is up for three Juno Awards this year, including Songwriter of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year.

"Sometimes I don't feel like the best songwriter, I'm learning every day so to be nominated for songwriter of the year and out of everyone who submitted, it's incredible," he told Narcity.

Nelly Furtado will be hosting the 53rd Juno Awards in Halifax on March 24 at 8 p.m. EST.
