Sparkling lakes, storybook streets, and dreamy autumn charm await in this quaint Ontario village. The destination is home to cozy cottage vibes and lakeside views, and locals say it's one of Canada's best small towns to live in.

We asked readers on Narcity Canada's Facebook page to share what they think is Canada's best small town to live in. Out of the hundreds of comments, this picturesque Ontario town was one of the spots mentioned.

Bobcaygeon is a cozy gem nestled between two beautiful lakes, Sturgeon and Pigeon, in the Kawarthas region.

It's about 90 minutes from the GTA, and offers endless seasonal charm, from vibrant fall foliage and scenic hiking trails to charming cafes and waterfront strolls.

The storybook streets are lined with quaint shops and eateries where you can find baked goods and specialty beverages to get you in the fall mood.

According to Visit Bobcaygeon, the town is "known world-wide for our spectacular autumn scenery," and "is blessed with some of autumn's finest, both in the village and within an easy drive, ride or paddle."

You can head to Lock 32, which is nestled right in the heart of town and offers gorgeous foliage with serene water backdrops. Until mid-October, you'll glimpse boats drifting up or down the Trent Severn Waterway.

Or, hop in the car and enjoy a fall drive through the scenic region, which is dotted with other cozy communities such as Lindsay and Fenelon Falls.

Kawartha Lakes is home to over 250 lakes, where you can paddle your way through vibrant forests or stroll along leafy waterside trails.

There are also several farms and markets located just a road trip from Bobcaygeon, such as McLean Berry Farm, where you can pick pumpkins and wander through a corn maze.

Throughout the fall season, you can enjoy farmers' markets, a Harvest Haunt, a fall fair, and more to get you in the autumn spirit.

According to Exit Realty Liftlock, Bobcaygeon "offers residents a quintessential small-town experience nestled along the shores of the Trent-Severn Waterway." Its quaint downtown, natural surroundings, and rich history present a "rewarding and fulfilling lifestyle for residents of all ages."

So, what is the cost of calling this spot home? Zolo reports that the average home price in Bobcaygeon as of June 2025 is $714,535 — a notable drop compared to Toronto's median price of $1,165,143.

If you love cozy towns with shimmering waters and seasonal charm, Bobcaygeon might just be your dream home.
