On Thursday, October 15, Calgary Police Service (CPS) sent out a news release detailing charges against one of their members.

The release said an officer has been charged with "assault and mischief to property following an alleged domestic incident in a neighbouring municipality."

CPS said they were notified of the charges on Friday, October 19 and the incident had happened the night before while the accused was off-duty.

The release said that in the case of domestic incidents, they do not release any names as to "protect the identity and privacy of the victim."

"Domestic violence is a serious issue and we offer many supports to our members to try prevent it," the release continued.

Apparently, they have therapists available to RCMP members and their families as well as other services from outside the police force if "specialized marriage or relationship counselling is required."

This case will be investigated by a detective in the Domestic Conflict Unit and victims will be connected to community supports.

No further information has been made available at this time.
