A Calgary Drag Performer Got Spat On Last Weekend At A Pride Crosswalk (VIDEO)

And it's only the most recent spitting incident.

Pride week comes at the end of August, but the month started out with what some are calling a hate crime. A Calgary drag performer was spat on during a video shoot. The entire scene was caught on video by their friend and has since gone viral on Facebook.

On Saturday, August 1, Calgary Drag King Jordan May, who goes by the stage name Duke Carson, was filming downtown on Stephen Avenue when they were spat on.

According to a video posted to Facebook Mackenzie Jefferies, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m.

"Two men walking past SPAT on the individual and kept walking saying 'we spit on homos,'" Jefferies wrote in the description.

Both men were wearing masks but had them lowered to their chins, exposing their faces.

"Duke, my friend I’m sorry this happened to you. You are a kind soul who didn’t deserve this hate," Jefferies continued.

In a separate video, May said they were filming their Calgary Pride 2020 submissions video for the virtual Pride Week.

"While he was walking up to me, I heard him say 'No, that's a boy for sure,'" said May in their video.

"As he walked past me, I felt the spit on my leg and saw the droplets that didn't make contact."

"Calgary Police has contacted me, I'm not sure if I'm going to pursue," they continued.

Calgary Pride has since responded to the original video, writing "This is a hate crime. This is sad, disgusting and reprehensible and our hearts go out to Duke who has more class in his sass than the criminal who perpetrated this crime."

Calgary Pride added that choosing to report the incident is "a deeply personal choice." However, they offered to connect May with their contacts on the CPS Gender and Sexual Diversity Advisory Board.

Narcity has reached out to Jordan May and Calgary Police for comment and we will update this story when we receive a response.

This hasn't been the only spitting incident that happened in Calgary as of late.

Two weeks ago, police charged a local cyclist who shouted racial slurs and spat on numerous people in a popular park.
