Calgary's Air Quality Was Almost Worse Than China's Last Night

Love this for us.

Things got really smoky in Calgary on Monday, August 24.

Environment Canada released an air quality warning at around 7:26 p.m., telling Calgarians that cool air would be blowing through the southern region of the province. The cool air was accompanied by the smoke that went on to reduce Calgary's air quality and visibility.

A global air quality index rated Calgary's air quality as 152, which is considered "unhealthy." Meanwhile, China's rating in the same index is at 155, meaning Calgary's air was nearly as bad as that of China.

The dip in air quality turned out to be brief as the city's rating returned to the "good" status by 9 p.m. That's when the Environment Canada warning ended.

Ron Mark, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said that the wildfires in B.C. and California partly contributed to the smoky air in Calgary.
