A Calgary Woman Has Died After Taking Photos & Falling Into A Canyon In BC On Sunday

The man that tried to rescue her is currently in the hospital. 🚨

A tragic incident took place in Kootenay National Park, B.C., on Sunday, August 16. 

A 34-year-old Calgary woman was pronounced dead at the scene in a Marble Canyon accident. A man who was with the woman also suffered injuries when he attempted to save her, according to an RCMP news release.

A woman was being photographed when she suddenly lost her footing, slipped and was swept away by the current of the river.

The 29-year-old male was also swept away by the water but rescue services carried out a rope rescue and airlifted him to a hospital in Calgary. He is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries. 

The woman was pulled out of the water by bystanders, who attempted "life saving measures" to resuscitate her. 

BC Coroners Service has initiated a fact-finding investigation to uncover more about the events leading to the Calgary woman's death.
