The Feds Have Revealed What Features Canada's New Quarantine Hotels Must Have

The hotel must report information back to the government. 🏨
Managing Editor, Canada

If you were wondering which services Canada’s quarantine hotels may end up offering, the federal government might have some answers.

In a call-out for hotels to participate in the newly-approved quarantine program, officials explained exactly what the venue must be able to provide to be considered.

Hotels must be located near one of the 4 Canadian airports currently accepting international flights. Government of Canada

Most importantly, the government is looking for accommodation close to the four airports that are still accepting international flights.

More specifically, it’s looking for facilities within 10 km of either Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Calgary International Airport, or Vancouver International Airport.

The location must also be able to provide “clear and congestion-free access to hotel room” as well as be “accessible to a tertiary care hospital facility.”

In addition, it must be able to provide “secured, controlled, and monitored entry and exit points,” as well as a 24/7 reception desk service.

Due to the nature of the program, the hotel needs “measures in place to monitor compliance with mandatory isolation requirements (e.g. traveller movement within hotel).”

It would also be required to provide laundry facilities, contactless meal services, TVs and radios and free wifi for guests quarantining.

In addition to a number of requirements related to cleaning and sanitation, infrastructure and food safety, the location must also have the capacity to keep tabs on everyone who is coming and going.

This includes reporting the number of travellers daily, generating daily lists of who is checking in and out, and having the “capacity” to report non-compliant guests to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).

There is no set date for Canada’s new hotel quarantine rules to come into effect, but officials intend for them to be implemented ASAP.
