Justin Trudeau wants everyone to read more Canadian books because he says our country has some of the greatest writers in the world.

In celebration of "I Read Canadian Day", many Canadians are being encouraged to support local talent here in the north.

With many staying home more than ever, Trudeau believes it's the perfect time to turn the pages on some good reads.

"Canada is home to some of the world's best authors and illustrators," he said. "Across our country from coast to coast to coast and in every region, Canadians are sharing the stories that reflect our culture, our heritage and our diversity." 

Luckily there is no shortage of great authors here at home who have also managed to make a name for themselves abroad.

Here are six famous Canadian authors you should read, according to Famous Authors

Margaret Atwood

Why You Should Know Them: Margaret Atwood is one of the most famous Canadian authors ever and has won many awards for her work like the Booker prize, Scotiabank Giller Prize, Arthur C. Clarke Award and Princess of Asturias Award for literature.

The Handmaid’s Tale has even been turned into a hit TV series.

Lucy Maud Montgomery
