Fancy a spring trip to Holland? You don't need to buy a pricey plane ticket in order to enjoy Dutch charm, windmills and colourful fields of tulips.
This destination near Ontario is a real-life Holland and it will whisk you away to Europe. Located just a three hour road trip away from the province, you can enjoy a little taste of the Netherlands without crossing the ocean.
You can spend your days strolling through an enchanting Dutch village, wandering through blooms at a tulip festival and enjoying Dutch attractions.
Here's what to know about this dreamy destination.
Holland is a city in Michigan, located just across the Canada U.S. border on the Lake Michigan shoreline. The city was originally settled by Dutch immigrants and still boasts endless Dutch heritage including Dutch architecture, food and festivals.
From May 4 to 12, the annual Tulip Time festival is taking place. The event features over six million tulips blooming throughout the city and there's lots to enjoy.
From parades to historical walking tours, a Tulip Immersion Garden, floral arranging classes and Dutch performances, you'll feel like you've taken a trip to Amsterdam.
For even more Dutch vibes, you can head to Nelis' Dutch Village. The village will transport you "back into the Netherlands of over 100 years ago," according to Discover Holland Michigan, and you can enjoy authentic architecture, Dutch Dancing, wooden shoe carving, rides, dining, tulips, shopping and more.
You can also head to Veldheer Tulip Gardens, Holland's only tulip farm, for more tulip adventures.
Your visit isn't complete without a trip to Windmill Island Gardens. The island is home to De Zwaan, the "only authentic Dutch windmill operating in the United States," according to Discover Holland Michigan, and it still grinds wheat into flower.
You'll also find a hand-painted antique carousel, Friesian horses, a replica of a Dutch village called Little Netherlands and around 150,000 colourful tulips.
