Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced at a press conference on Thursday, October 1 that 133 schools are battling COVID-19 cases in Alberta.

Beyond that, classes just started four weeks ago and 52 schools in our province are already dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks. Edmonton schools make up almost half of that list.

“I want to remind everyone that a school outbreak is called with just two cases in a school and does not mean the school is unsafe,” Hinshaw said at the press conference.

There are currently five schools in Edmonton and two in Calgary who are on the watch list, which means five or more cases of COVID-19.

According to Alberta's top doctor, over one hundred thousand school kids have been tested in Alberta since September 1 and that has shown a positivity rate of less than one percent.

"In fact, only 11 of these schools have had any likely in-school transmission, with most leading to only 1 case," added Hinshaw.

The Government of Alberta has an interactive map and list that show the status of each school across the province.
