Jason Kenney doesn't plan to shut things down again in response to COVID-19 cases in Alberta

On Wednesday, September 9, Kenney was asked in a press conference whether he planned to impose restrictions on businesses and individuals, similar to what B.C. has done in recent weeks. He responded by saying, "we’re not going to micromanage our way out of this."

We want to do everything we possibly can to avoid jerking around people — indiscriminately shutting down their businesses, their jobs and their livelihoods.

Kenney added that shutting down businesses will lead to further problems among the residents, such as poverty, addictions, "huge family challenges," and more.

The Premier praised Alberta's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and said that B.C. was tied to Alberta in terms of new cases and hospitalizations "per capita."

Though, he did acknowledge that the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Alberta is concerning.
