Trudeau Responded To Elliot Page Coming Out As Trans & The Message Is So Powerful

"Your bravery and strength are inspiring," said the PM.
Managing Editor, Canada

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shared a powerful message of support with Elliot Page, after the Juno star came out as trans on Tuesday.

In an open letter shared on December 1, Page wrote, “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot.”

Shortly after, the PM thanked the actor for his “bravery and strength,” and described them as “inspiring.”

“Thank you, Elliot, for sharing these words and speaking your truth,” Trudeau said.

Your bravery and strength are inspiring, and your authenticity and vulnerability will mean so much to so many. Justin Trudeau

The prime minister went on to share well-wishes from his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.

“Sophie and I wish you the very best, and we send you - and the trans community - all our support,” he added.

This response was posted just hours after Elliot came out via Instagram, in a moving post that offered gratitude to the “incredible people” that supported them on their journey.

Asking for patience, the Canadian noted that his “joy is real, but it is also fragile.”

The 33-year-old took the time to "address the full picture," and acknowledged that “the discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences.”

Elliot’s message ended on a high, as he wrote, “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer."

"And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.”
